Who We Are

Photo of Yellow Flax Wildflower The Friends of Nahanton Park, formed in 1985, collaborated with the City of Newton and landscape architects to create a plan that would secure and protect this valuable open space—and has been engaged with its stewardship ever since.

Today, we are a growing group of citizens and business owners who are enjoying and protecting a civic treasure, Nahanton Park. We are walkers, gardeners, birders, boaters, fishers, student athletes, seniors, and strollers who use the host of recreational opportunities offered by the park's relatively large expanse. We are also professionals whose companies and employees benefit from the proximity of healthy green space.

Photo of Anerican Tree SparrowThe Friends offers voice to those park constituencies who cannot speak for themselves: the incredible species of plants and wildlife that enrich our quality of life every day. Our goal is to see that the needs of all of the varied users of Nahanton Park are met and a healthy balance maintained.
